Thierry MARTENON was born in 1967 in Grenoble. A trained cabinet maker and self -taught sculptor, he uses the technique of direct carving, sympathetic to the wood. The trees come from the forest of the massif Grande Chartreuse in the Alps (Savoie-Isère). Thierry’s aesthetic research into wood reveals new textures and the authenticity of the tree with simple and refined forms. With inspiration from Mies Van Der Rohe’s Less Is More he gives contemporary expression through wood heavily laden with history and centuries.
