«A collection of old openwork ceramic pieces is the starting point of my research and examination. I am especially fascinated by the possibilities of activating processes through the holes in order to join different materials (glaze, plastic, sugar tragacanth) together with the openwork ceramic pieces. Repetitions and variations of these processes enable me to emphasize materiality, formal or colour correlation and contrasting elements.
Some processes are controlled and stopped deliberately, others are left to chance, so for example; the glazed pattern on a plate is melting into a shape drawn by it running through material during firing.
It produces visual ‘creatures’, setting stories in motion. They offer to the eye of the observer a visible animation of the material, a poetic elsewhere.» – Estelle Gassmann
